Aldo Holtmeier, age 87, passed away on August 11, 2017. He was born Nov. 11, 1929 in Ellis, Nebraska to Albert and Hermina (Meyer) Holtmeier. Aldo was united in marriage in Daykin, Nebraska to Marilyn Jarchow on September 12, 1951, and they shared 61 wonderful years together.
He is remembered by his six children: Donna Peterson, Alan (Kellie) Holtmeier, Larry Holtmeier, Bruce (Dawn) Holtmeier, Gregg (Kelly Asplund)Holtmeier, and Cami (Peter Korytko); eleven grandchildren: Annessa (Noah) Kaylor; Jake (DeeJay) Reiss; Andrew Wehling; Katy Peterson; Ben (Erin) Peterson; Zeya and Mace Korytko; Alaina (Darin) Schopen, Emily (Nolan) Rudder, Phil Holtmeier and Lily Holtmeier; and five great grandchildren: Victoria, Katherine and Fiona Kaylor, Dawson Reiss, Nathan Peterson, Brother: Norval Holtmeier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn and brothers Lavern and Lee Holtmeier.
Aldo grew up on a farm outside of Tobias. In his youth he spoke German while he lived part time in Fairbury helping his Grandmother. He attended Tobias High School and studied business administration at Fairbury Community College. Aldo’s career included being an accountant for the Massey-Harris Implement dealer in Pilger and a manager at the Beckman Filling station before heading into the US Marine Corps. He served two years during the Korean War, stationed in San Diego and San Francisco. After returning to Nebraska in 1953, Marilyn and Aldo moved to Crete, and Aldo was hired at the Crete Mills. In his 42 years at Crete Mills, Aldo was a payroll and disbursement clerk, a bag buyer, and finally Traffic Manager. Aldo served on the Lincoln Grain Exchange Board of Directors for 31 years. He served as president of the Lincoln Transportation Club in 1975, and was named 1984 Man of the Year for the Lincoln Transportation Club. In 1966, he was the President of the Crete Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he was a board member of the Chamber for three years and on the Chamber’s Ag committee for several years. Outside of work, Aldo was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1953 and served as an elder; he was a member of the Crete American Legion Post 147. Throughout his life he was an avid Husker fan, a gardener, a golfer, a hunter and a fisherman. He was fortunate to have accumulated many valuable and lifelong friends from working at Crete Mills, from golfing at the Crete Country Club, from being a member of the American Legion and the Lutheran church, and from living in the Crete community. His children and grandchildren will remember him as a loving family man, with passions for a homemade meal, following the weather and sports, gardening, birding, as well as his a marvelous sense of humor.
Visitation will be 5 pm to 7 pm Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 805 Hawthorne Avenue, Crete. Graveside services with military honors by Crete VFW Post #4959 will be 9:30 am Wednesday at Crete Riverside Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 11:00 am Wednesday. Memorials in care of the church. Condolences may be left at trumpmemorials.com. Sorry to hear about your Dad. He was the one who hired me when I first went to work at the mill. Worked with him many years. He was a good guy. Will be missed. Thinking of your family at this time.

May God be with you at this sad time and may you journey forth and remember all of the wonderful times you had with your dad. Parents are so hard to lose but know they are always looking over us. Hug each other and tell those great stories. I haven’t been in Crete for a long time but know that your dad was a part of the backbone of our little town and will be sorely missed.
