Jay G. Preston Sr. was born November 29, 1931 to J. George and Lillie (Gaskell) Preston in Belden, Nebraska and passed away on June 11th, 2018 in Crete, Nebraska at the age of 86 years.

Jay grew up on a farm near Seward Nebraska and graduated from Seward High School in 1949. He enlisted into the U.S. AirForce in 1951 and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Jay and Vi Peters were united in marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska on July 11, 1952. Jay was honorably discharged from the U.S. AirForce in September 1955. Jay worked for Burlington Northern Railroad at the Crete, Nebraska depot from 1955 to 1962. Jay and Vi purchased the Philips 66 service station in Plymouth Nebraska in May 1962 and operated Preston Oil Co. from 1962 – 1978. After selling the station, Jay continued the tank wagon service of delivering fuel to farmers while farming his land. Jay loved farming, golfing, hunting, Nebraska football and volleyball. He was a practical joker, a trait passed to him from his mother, Lillie.

Jay’s survivors are his wife, Vi; daughter Leslie (Larry) of Lincoln; Sons Jay Jr (Tami) of Crete and Tom of Vancouver, WA; Granddaughters: Candace (Travis) Hohlfeld of Crete and Amanda (Luke) Lingg of Hallam; Great-granddaughters: Alivia Lingg and Sloan Hohlfeld. Sisters: Zella Kontos, Virginia Peterson, Barbara (Bob) Chleborad and Sandy (Gary) Earl. Sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws: Arlene & Jack Reighard, Beverly Peters, Leroy & Erna Peters, Delmer & Kathleen Peters, Doris Kutz and Carl Gruenke, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ila & Merle Schluckebier, sister & brother-in-law; Louis Kontos, Don Peterson, Edgar Peters, Don Kutz, brother-in-laws; and Delores Gruenke, sister-in-law.

Services will be held June 15th, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1100 G Street, Fairbury, NE at 10 am. Burial will be at Seward Cemetery. The family will greet friends on June 14th at Grace Lutheran Church from 6:30-8 pm.
