Everett Loren Hier, age 89, Crete, passed away March 31, 2019 at the Wilber Care Center.  He was born September 6, 1929 to Albert and Louise Hier in Crete, NE.  Everett grew up on a farm, lived his entire life in Crete, went to St. James Catholic School, and graduated from Crete High School.

In his early youth he drove a truck for Fairmont Creamery, as well as Znamenacek Brothers.  He operated Hier’s Hillside Service for 40 years, where he made many friends.  He also operated the Continental Trailways Bus depot at the Hillside location for several years.  After closing Hier’s Hillside, he worked for Crete Public Schools and drove a bus for 17 years.  He has been a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Society, and was a lector and usher.

Everett was an avid pitch player, playing every Monday at the V.F.W. Club.  His other hobbies included gardening.  He had a wonderful green thumb and always had a large garden, and always shared his harvest.  He had a love for animals and nature, and instilled this in his children.  He provided them with a farm like atmosphere in town.  He enjoyed taking the family asparagus and mushroom hunting.  Everett loved doing the crossword puzzles everyday in the Lincoln Journal.  He liked watching game shows and westerns.  He enjoyed traveling, and made sure the family had many memorable vacations.  He was a loving father and grandfather, and his face would light up when the great grandchildren came to visit.

Everett was preceeded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; parents; brothers, Ted, Julian, Dorlen, Bob, and infant brother Glade.  He is survived by his children, Trish Spanjer (Gregg Sliwka) of LaQuinta, California, David (Kim) Hier, Rose Marie (Henry) Kleineweber all of Crete, Pamela Hier of Lincoln;  sisters-in-law, Helen Hier, Pat (Dan) Murray, Ruth Goeglein, Eunice Underwood; Grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Koopman of Colorado, Tiffany (Troy) Renk, Cassie Hier, Jenny Kleineweber all of Lincoln, Michelle (Michael) Wile of Kansas City, MO, Nicole Kleineweber; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Bailey and Hayden Koopman, Brenna and Maggie Renk, Anthony Cambronero Kleineweber, Iliyana and Odalee Dightman, Dorothea Wile; cousins, many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

A rosary will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2019 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crete.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crete.  Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  Condolences may be left at trumpmemorials.com.  Trump Funeral Services, 1600 West “O” Street, Lincoln are handling the arrangements.
