Ronald Loyd Oleson, 74, died Monday, February 13, 2023, at Fallbrook Assisted Living in Lincoln.  He had suffered for many years from Parkinson’s disease.

Ron was born on May 1, 1948 in Omaha, the son of Loyd Clinton Oleson and Shirley Beth Chatt.  He grew up in Crete, graduating in 1970 from Doane College, where both parents were administrators.  In 1973, he graduated from law school at Iowa State University, a member of the legal honor society Order of the Coif.  His first job was as a civil rights attorney for the U.S. Dept. of Justice in Washington, D.C.  He litigated cases in Mississippi and Alabama, desegregating funding for higher education and fighting job discrimination on behalf of state employees.  He later worked in the Department of Energy, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the General Accounting Office, all in Washington, D.C.

After Ron retired to Nebraska, he served on the board of Legal Aid of Nebraska, continuing his dedication to justice and equality under the law.  He was also active in the Peace and Justice Team at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln.  Ron’s passion for Nebraska football was as “Go Big Red” as the blood that flowed through his veins.  He annually went to games throughout his lifetime and passed down his love of the game and Nebraska football to his son Clint.  They attended many games over the years and have lifetime memories of the experiences.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, of Crete, and his sister Nancy Scheet of Omaha.  He is survived by his son Clint Oleson and daughter Carrie Oleson of Maryland.
