Clifton Allen “Jack” Sexton Jr., age 89, rural Denton, passed away July 28, 2026 in Lincoln. Graveside services with full military honors will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Sunnyside Denton Cemetery, 9437 West 3rd Street, Denton. I was deeply saddened by Jack Sexton’s passing. Jack was more than a friend—he was someone who shared an important part of my life story. We met in the Marine Corps, attended community college and the University of Kentucky together, and remained lifelong friends.
Jack and I both grew up poor in Kentucky and knew what it was like to start with very little. We shared a belief in hard work, getting an education, and remembering where we came from. Jack was proud of his Marine Corps service, of earning an education, and of the life he and Ruth built together.
I was very proud of Jack’s achievements. He worked as an internal auditor for Gulf and Western, where he oversaw the yearly auditing of about 50 companies. He later managed Nebraska’s Business Tax Department, served as Director of the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services under Governor Bob Kerrey, and spent the later years of his career teaching at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Over the years, Jack and I shared many conversations about our lives, our families, and the different paths we had taken. He was the kind of friend who was always there when needed. When I had knee-replacement surgery, Jack came to Florida and spent two weeks helping me recover—a kindness I will never forget.
Jack was a good man and a loyal friend. I will miss him and will always be grateful for the friendship we shared.
