Gilbert D. “Gibbs” Luebke, age 83, went to his Heavenly home on October 7, 2022 in his sleep where he resided at Pemberly Place, Lincoln, NE. He was born on May 26, 1939, at the Davenport parsonage in Thayer County, NE and was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church by his father Rev. Daniel F. Luebke. He was confirmed by his father in 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Walton, NE. He remained a member of Trinity until his death. Gilbert went to elementary school Dist. 24, a one room school near home. He attended High School at Eagle and Walton, NE. He enjoyed working for Roland Meyer doing landscaping and later worked at Heidenreich TV repair shop in Lincoln, Ne. until he retired.
Gilbert was blessed with a brilliant mind in science, electronics and all things mechanical, and as seems to be the case with these types he was an introvert and avoided crowds and lots of social events. Yet he enjoyed visiting with friends and family. His father recognized his talents so he put Gib to work repairing and operating the film projector the church used, also to do repairs and maintenance on the pipe organ. He could even play a few bits of Bach’s fugue in D minor. He loved the pipe organ and over the years had a collection of record albums from some great organs. When his sister, Paulette, attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, NE she took pipe organ lessons. Gib showed her the mechanics and all the pipes from the organ and explained it’s operation. A lesson she never forgot. His high school principal also recognized his talents and knowledge, he was taken to the science dept. at UNL to see and learn more, which he loved.
Most importantly, he knew he was saved and was a faithful witness of Christ over the years. His niece, Angie, and her brother, Mark, remember his witnessing to them as children when he took them electronic toys to play with.
Gilbert is survived by his sister Myrna Luebke Heckman and brother in law Gary Hickman of Lincoln, NE, sister Doris Luebke of Lincoln, NE, sister Vera Luebke Overbeck and brother in law Terry Overbeck of Firth, NE, sister Paulette Luebke Kamprath and brother in law James Kamparth of New Braunfels, TX, sister in law Karen Luebke of Bennet, NE, sister in law Rosemary Luebke and Fiance Roger Pearson., of Lincoln, NE. Aunt Olga Luebke Krause of Tulsa, OK., double cousins Ted Oehlert of Bennet, NE, Dan Oehert and spouse Diana of St. Charles, MO, Darlene Lilienkamp and spouse Rev. Dr. Carl Lilienkamp of Wayne, NE and nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many cousins. Gilbert was preceded in death by his father Rev. Daniel F. Luebke, mother Dorothy E. Luebke, brother Robert D. Luebke, brother Roland C. Luebke, niece Debi Luebke, niece Sherri Luebke, and nephew John Luebke.

Praising God for Gib’s faith and homecoming! So many great memories of time together at Walton! Love you all, my precious family!! God comfort and keep you in His peace and joy!!
So sorry for your loss. I don’t recall ever meeting him at any of the reunions. Perhaps when I was very young? Some day will meet him in heaven. May God’s comfort be with you all as you celebrate his life.
I love you Uncle Gilbert, I have always been amazed by your kindness and you always had a big smile for me when I came to visit as a youngster.
I always asked how you were doing as I had moved away from Ne. And always thought fondly of you. See you in heaven!
I was so sorry to hear of Gibs passing. He was a amazing individual to say the least. Being a double cousin made us almost brothers! I was always impressed by his knowledge of electronics and his ability to make and fix things. I learned how to make a firecracker gun from one he had made. I also will never forget that 1965 SS 396 Chevelle he had and scared the daylights out of me on several rides he gave me! I will see you one day in heaven Gib, Rest In Peace!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of loss.
Me: Will I get shocked?
Gibbs: Probably not, but to be safe, don’t touch anything metal.
You’re gonna be missed.
Vera and Terry. We are so sorry to hear of your brothers passing. May you find comfort knowing he is with the Lord.
My first ride in an all electric car was not a Tesla from Uber but Gilbert’s homemade car that he made when I was in grade school. He had an electric battery hooked up somehow on a wooden platform with axles and wheels and enough room for us to sit. We drove down to Kemper’s corner and when we returned I was so amazed that there was no sound at all except a few of the gravel pebbles making noise under the wheels.
