Walter Alvin Duhs, Jr., 79, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Alvin was born on September 23, 1946, in Pekin, Illinois, to Walter and Cora (Duffield) Duhs. He graduated from Limestone High School in Bartonville, Illinois, in 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served two tours during the Vietnam War.

Al was the father of three sons and enjoyed attending their many activities as they grew up. He was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Morton, Illinois, where he became affectionately known as “Mr. Duhs the Candy Man” because he always carried Starbursts in his pocket to share with children.

Al worked for Caterpillar Inc. for more than 30 years before retiring. He married Susan Hill on April 8, 2006, in Bartonville, Illinois. He later enjoyed working as a school bus driver in Illinois and then in Nebraska after moving to Lincoln to be closer to some of his grandchildren.

Al is survived by his wife, Susan Duhs of Lincoln, Nebraska; his three sons, William (Cindy) Duhs of Omaha, Nebraska, Jason (Kathy) Duhs of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Sam (Kelly) Duhs of St. Cloud, Florida; ten grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Josh (Madysen) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Caleb, Eli, Hannah, and Seth of St. Cloud, Florida; Gabe, Lizzie, Ben, and Mary of Omaha, Nebraska, sister, Vickie (Fred) Leibach of Bartonville, Illinois, brother Mike (Yolanda Wortman) Duhs of Milton, Florida, sister-in-law Theresa Duhs; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Duhs.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church in Morton, Illinois; the Timber-Hollis Fire Department in Glasford, Illinois; or the Bartonville Volunteer Fire Department in Bartonville, Illinois. Condolences may be left at trumpmemorials.com.
