Frank Eugene Kohout, (or Butch as he was also known as by his four siblings and their families), age 86, Lincoln, NE passed away May 8, 2020 at his home in Lincoln surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Schuyler, NE. He had four brothers and one sister. He graduated from Schuyler High School in 1951. After that he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Korean War. Upon returning from the Navy he moved to Lincoln and attended barber college. He began his career as a barber in 1957. On May 14, 1960 he was united in marriage to Edith Christiansen, also of Schuyler, and a good friend of his little sister. They wasted no time starting a family and had four children by 1966. In 1967 he opened West Gate Barbers on West “O” Street where he barbered until his retirement in 1995. The most important things to Frank were his family and his faith. Frank had a love for nature which included fishing and hunting or simply taking a drive out to the lakes. He loved his country and was honored to be a veteran. He enjoyed his wife’s home cooking and loved his sweets. He remained close to his siblings throughout his life. He loved his children dearly and was a proud grandpa to his grandkids and great grandkids. The idea of a perfect evening for him was a good dinner at home and playing cards or games with his family. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Husker fan. Frank was a kind, loving man with a good sense of humor. If you knew Frank, you knew he loved to talk, he asked many questions and was genuinely interested in what you had to say. He seemed to make “new” friends wherever he went. He was a devoted Catholic and had a strong faith. His bright smile and cheerful heart will be missed by all who knew him.

So sorry to see the passing of a really great guy, I always enjoyed talking to Frank, and I know how much he will be missed. Hopefully you will be able to look back on all your special times you were able to spend as A family and always know he will never be forgotten but will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Was sad to read about Frank. Yes, he was a great man that I got to know several years ago when there was a Barber’s Association and also his wife. Golly, I did not know he had retired that long ago. Heck, I am 89 and still cutting hair at the VA. Do you remember me Mrs. Kohout? Would love to visit with you some evening and then could send a token memorial if you told to who and your address. God Bless, Bob Taylor.402 489 6812
Oh Edie, Greg, and family: I realize now that Frank was my husband’s barber at the shop on West O. I worked at the pharmacy right up the sidewalk. Everyone LOVED Frank!!! He was such a nice nice person. Lyle was sad when Frank retired and always lamented he couldn’t find a barber as good as Frank. My prayers will be with you in this grief journey. He is home with Jesus.
From Kelly Peet: I’m so sorry for your loss & I send my deepest condolences to you & your family. Frank and Edith have been a big part of my life for many of years. Just like second parents to me. Love you very much, Frank & Edith.
Edie & all of the family~
Our hearts go out to all of you in this tough time. We will remember Frank for his “quick” stories! He was always calling to joke with us!! I’ve always admired with determination to keep his yard perfect, in his boots, of course. He will be missed. Take care of each other.
So sorry for your loss Edie. Take care and be safe!!
