Theresa E. Stehlik was born in December of 1948 in Minden, NE during a blizzard to Erwin and Grace (Christensen) Hawe. She passed away Wednesday, October 26th, 2022, at her home surrounded by family in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 73 years. 

Theresa graduated from Minden High School in 1967. She attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln where she was very involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta. She graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s in education and began her teaching career in Rehoboth, New Mexico.Theresa then returned to Nebraska where she taught in Pierce and at Cathedral for a number of years as well as Lincoln Public Schools for 31 years before she retired. Schools she taught at included Randolph Elementary, Dawes Middle School and Scott Middle School. Teaching was one of her biggest passions and she adored all of her students and coworkers. 

During her retirement Theresa continued to substitute teach for Lincoln Public Schools as well as taught Tai Chi at Aging Partners. She also loved supporting her family and grandchildren through their various events and activities. Theresa continued to be an active alumni of Kappa Delta by serving many years on various boards. She cherished each girl as if they were her own. In her free time, Theresa loved to cheer on the Huskers, no matter the sport. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Grace Hawe and brother-in-law Lloyd Kahlandt. 

Survivors include her sisters, Mary Kahlandt of Tekamah and Dorothy Fortner of Ventura, CA; sons, Jim (Carin) Sandman and John Sandman of Lincoln; grandchildren Alexis Sandman and fiance Riley Spicer, Bailey Sandman, and Tate Sandman as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, and her significant other, George Wallace.

Memorial Services will be at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, 1551 South 70th Street, Lincoln where Theresa was a member.
