Roger Paul “Doc” Frerichs was the first child born to Paul and Phyllis Frerichs and was the big brother to six sisters and one brother.  Roger graduated from Shickley High School in 1967.  Roger answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1968.  Roger served fearlessly as a Hospital Corpsman in the Vietnam War, and upon returning he married the love of his life Jane Bernasek on June 6, 1970.  Roger never shied away from the calling and was reactivated for Operation Desert Shield.  He was an exemplary sailor and rose to the rank of Petty Officer First Class and received many accommodations and awards.  Roger had a passion for serving his country and continued his career as a Reservist, retiring after 23 years and 9 months of service.

Roger was also dedicated to public service in his civilian life and devoted himself to a career in heating and air and retired from Black Hills Gas Company.  Those lucky enough to call him friend, fondly knew him as Doc.  Roger enjoyed road trips with his friends to see sprint car races, playing cards, bowling, and always looked back fondly on his Annual Training with his fellow sailors.  The only thing Roger loved more than his Wife and His Country was his son.  Jane and Roger welcomed son Jeff Frerichs in June 1971.  From the moment that Jeff was born, Roger and Jeff were two peas in a pod, spending summer nights and vacations seeing sprint cars together.

Roger is survived by Wife, Jane; Son and daughter -in-law, Jeff & Marcy Frerichs; 4 grandchildren, Rachel (Spencer) Delp, Amanda Ligenza, Samantha Ligenza, Tyler Frerichs; one great-grand son, Sylas Delp & one great-grandson on the way; one brother, four sisters,
numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.  Roger was preceded by his parents and two sisters.
