Robert L. “Bob” Kastanek, age 93, Crete, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. He was born August 25, 1922 to Joseph and Rose (Stejskal) Kastanek on a farm southwest of Crete. Bob graduated from Wilber High School in 1940. He attended Doane College for one year and due to WWII returned to help out on the family farm. He married Mary Ann Zajicek on May 23, 1948 in Wilber. They made their home on a farm near Crete until 1987 at which time they retired to a home in Crete. Bob was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bob was a farmer all his life. He served on District #25 school board, and Dorchester Coop board of directors. Bob loved his Czech heritage and he was an avid fan and supporter of his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Ray and Sally Kastanek of Roca, Robert J. Kastanek, Los Angeles, CA, Anne and Dr. Philip Hardenburger, Crete, and David and Lisa Kastanek of Lincoln; Grandchildren and their spouses, Brock and Jenny Kastanek, Brant and Brooke Kastanek, Laura Hardenburger, Andrew and Lindsay Hardenburger, Aleece and Jared Reetz, Marissa Kastanek, Alexa Kastanek, Marcus Kastanek; Great Grandchildren, Blake, Addison, Caleb, Jackson and Cole Kastanek, Estelle and Briggen Reetz, and Wrigley Hardenburger. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; Parents; Brothers, Joe, Otto, and Lad Kastanek; Sisters, Ludmila Kastanek and Mildred Matejka; Grandson, Mitchell Kastanek; nephews, Paul Esteraich and Dennis Zajicek.
FUNERAL SERVICES
10:30 a.m., Monday, United Church of Christ, 1st Congregational in the ARC, 12th and Ivy, Crete. Visitation with family greeting friends, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Viewing, one hour before services Monday at the church. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Crete. Memorials in care of the family for a future charitable donation to be made in Bob’s memory. Trump Funeral Services, 1600 West “O” Street, Lincoln is handling the arrangements.
