Sally Lynn Hakel, age 57, Lincoln, passed away peacefully in her home on April 18th, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. She fought a brave two-and-a-half-year battle with stage 4 lung and brain cancer. She was born on September 2nd, 1958, to Duane and Doris (Fischer) Bokemper in Wakefield, Nebraska. She graduated from Lincoln Southeast in 1976 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After graduation, she worked for 26 years at the Nebraska State Disability Office in Lincoln. She married Jim Hakel from Weston, Nebraska, in 1993 and had two children.
Sally was preceded in death by her father, Duane Bokemper. She is survived by husband, Jim Hakel, Lincoln; children, Desirae Hakel, Lincoln, Nolan Hakel, Lincoln; mother, Doris Bokemper, Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Theresa Bokemper, Sergeant Bluff, IA; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Joe Schaffer, Lincoln; sisters-in-law and spouses, Sharon Hakel-Hatton and Dick Hatton, Ashland; Nancy Hakel-Smith and Dave Smith, Lincoln; Lynne Hakel-Lehms and Jeff Lehms, Lincoln; Lori and Terry Dailey, Wahoo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by many dear friends and family and always remembered for her beautiful smile.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, North American Martyrs Catholic Church, 1101 Isaac Drive, Lincoln.
VISITATION: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the church. One hour before services Saturday.
ROSARY: 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the church.
