Emily Jean Rees, 85 of Liberty, passed away in Beatrice, NE on October 14, 2018. Emily was born on the family farm June 28, 1933  to Charles and Mabel (Shalla) Vetrovsky. She grew up on the family farm located in the rural Barneston area and attended school in Barneston, NE, graduating from High School May 17th , 1950.

Emily was a member of the Barneston United Presbyterian Church, transferring that membership to the Mission Creek United Presbyterian Church of rural Liberty following her marriage to Harold Rees on October 28, 1951.

After marriage, Emily settled into her new home on the farm in rural Liberty.  It was there she raised her family and worked the farm alongside Harold. Within the community she participated in Extension Club, Church activities, and later on ceramics where she created many treasures.

Emily always kept an extensive garden and became adept at growing the most delicious watermelons.

Emily loved to cook and her cooking was amazing.  Simple food done right. It was no wonder that after her children left the home she began a 20+ year career as a cook for the PEO home in Beatrice, NE, where she was able to prepare her own recipes.  As her Grandchildren became older, she never visited without bringing them a loaf of her famous banana bread. If you were hired to do work for Emily you were guaranteed fresh homemade strawberry cookies at the very least.  Even after entering assisted living as a resident the cook would often ask her for cooking advice.

The last 4 years and 8 months Emily resided at the Good Samaritan system in Beatrice, NE.  While living there she made many new friends. Friends that have often expressed what a great, thoughtful, understanding friend they had in Emily.

Emily was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Harold Rees, parents Charles and Mabel Vetrovsky, brother Jess Vetrovsky, and brother-in-law Charles Bartels.

She is survived by sons Dale Rees and wife Karen of Kearney, Wayne Rees and wife Sherri of Liberty.  Daughter Doris Schuur and husband Tom of Omaha.
