Enoch Nelson “Kelly” Kellogg was born March 28, 1931, in Friend, Nebraska, to Omer Horace Kellogg and Ellen Cedarholm Kellogg. He was the youngest of four children.  The family eventually moved to Lincoln, where Kelly met Bette Jo Ann Shepard. They married on Jan. 31, 1953, and produced and directed seven children. Their union lasted 63 years, ending with Bette’s death on May 9, 2016.

Kelly was a pressman by trade, but he was also a musician. He played acoustic guitar, mandolin and steel guitar for various ensembles, but he was most proud of his time with The Midwest Melody Boys, whose members — in addition to Kelly — were Kenny Ratzloff, Duane Trumble, Tex Linderman, Charley Patterson and Bob Miller. The band played during the 1950s on KOLN Radio in Lincoln.
