Mary Clee (Franks) Schuerman, 91, of Lincoln NE. passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, surrounded by her family, following long-term complications linked to Polio, which she faced with great fortitude and grace. Mary was born on August 23, 1933, in Beaumont, TX.
Mary graduated from Lincoln High School. She later married Lieutenant Charles W. Schuerman on June 12, 1955, and accompanied him during his military service living in Manhattan, KS. and later Aschaffenburg, Germany during his assignments. Upon returning to Lincoln, she completed her B.S. in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Mary and Charles purchased the Farmers Bank of Clatonia and opened the Schuerman Insurance Agency. Mary acted as Vice President of the bank and managed the agency from 1963 to 1993. She was also an active member of the Clatonia and Gage County Homemaker’s Associations. Further, she was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church of Clatonia before transferring membership to Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Lincoln.
Mary was a resilient and compassionate woman known for her indomitable spirit and heartfelt generosity. As a woman who persevered through great adversity during childhood, and a mother of three adopted children, her interest in caring for the vulnerable never wavered, as she spent her later years donating to charities for the young and less fortunate. Mary enjoyed reading novels, collecting hatpins and jewelry, but most of all, she enjoyed her family. She was truly an Iron Lady.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Hargraves) Janowick and Lee B. Franks, stepmother, Alice (Rountree) Franks, brother, Theodore “Teddy” Franks, and son, David Schuerman. She is survived by her husband, Charles, her sister, Leta (Franks) Haupt, children Cammie Schuerman and Diane (Schuerman) Mayer, grandchildren Miles Mayer and Christina (Mayer) Hartzell, and great-grandchildren Raelynn and Cecilia Hartzell.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South Street, Lincoln, on January 4, 2025, at 11 A.M. followed by a light lunch. Remains to be inurned privately at the Clatonia Cemetery by close family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted by the family to be given to a charitable cause at a later date. Condolences may be left at trumpmemorials.com. Trump Funeral Services, 1600 West “O” Street, Lincoln.
We will always remember Mary as such a fun loving and spunky lady who loved life. We always looked forward to her riding her scooter up the parking lot hill to see us.
Her passing leaves a big void in our neighborhood community.
Today the Angels in heaven celebrate upon the arrival of Mary’s soul in paradise.

Thank you,
Mary Clee Schuerman ‘s family.
MC was truly a remarkable and unforgettable lady, inspiring everyone who knew her. As a dear cousin to me, I will never forget my annual trips from Louisiana to visit my Lincoln family. MC & Chuck were two of the finest people one could ever have the pleasure of knowing, always present with concern for each of my family members. Good humor and laughter always punctuated each encounter. I know she is with our Father above and I’ll greet her again. God bless her family and give them peace. She will be missed by us all.
Thank you, Christian and Ricky! You both meant a lot to her.
Mary Clee and I first met after her dad hired me to work at Lee’s Restaurant. back in 1959. What a spunky lady to take on the responsibility of raising three children when life was already a challenge. I last saw her last year, prettier than ever, and we had such a nice chat. She certainly met her challenges in life with courage and I’m glad I met her all those years ago through her greatest cheerleader from childhood, her dad.
Thank you so much, Dorothy. We have heard many stories! Hope you’re doing well! Think about you often- Cammie and family.
So sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a great friend to my Mom – Norma Jiskra. I hope they are having the best reunion. Mary was a great lady. My deepest sympathy to Chuck and family!
