Tom was the youngest of six, a gentle soul who moved through life with a quiet, easygoing spirit. Those who knew him remember his sweetness, his softness, and the way he simply went with the flow. Tom’s life was not an easy one. He faced deep challenges, including years of struggle with schizophrenia and later a battle with cancer. Despite these hardships, he endured in his own way, and those who loved him never stopped caring for him, standing by him, and hoping for his peace.

He was especially blessed to have a devoted sister Georgia, who walked closely beside him, offering constant love, care, and support. That love meant everything. While our hearts are saddened by his passing, we also find comfort in knowing that Tom is now at peace—free from the struggles that marked so much of his life. We hold onto the hope and promise of a future where he will be restored, free from pain and illness, and able to live the life he was always meant to have. Tom will be remembered with love, compassion, and the quiet strength he showed simply by continuing on. He is deeply missed, and forever in our hearts.

Tom is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Georgia Hayes-Deschaneand Steve Deschane Lincoln, NE, sister, Lola Luce, Houston, TX, brother, David Hayes, Lincoln, NE , sister, Ann Baker, Lincoln NE. Then there was Benjamin, a dog who loved and understood Tom’s struggles from the get go. He would stay by Tom’s side when he visited his sister Georgia and Steve’s home; 3 nephews, Andy Rinquest, his wife Cristiana and daughter Ellen, Lincoln NE, Tyler Baker and Toby Baker Lincoln, NE. Tom is preceded in death by his parents George and Lena (Kumpf) Hayes and his sister, Mary Hayes.

We also want to thank all the wonderful people who took excellent care of Tom while he lived at Sunrise Manor in Milford, Nebraska. Those folks really showed they cared and for that we will always be grateful. Thank you so much! Until we see you again Tom… know we love you very much!
